MusicPhile At Work (09.28.16)

I heard this new Justin Bieber song and I couldn't help but notice how similar it was to another song already out a while ago... But, listen to it yourself and tell me if the counter melody or something about the melody sounds similar? I can't shake it and I'm not sure why. I know artists are inspired by other artists, and therefore some songs come into existence because of that.

iTunes and Hopes and Reddit... Oh, my!

I used to buy over 100 albums every year and listen to them in turn. When the computer got iTunes, I'd burn music to my playlist accordingly. Oh, yes. I was THAT gung-ho! And then, well, CDs become a bit obsolete and so, it was all mp3s!... And then, now, it's all about Shazam-ing music on the radio and adding it to my iTunes collection. And now, Umbrella Thoughts has been added to the Podcast family!!

Now, The CoTangent just needs to be fixed and added so that the world can access that one! I mean, through the thick and thin, Ed and I have been able to hang and grow up. I guess, that's a good sign of a strong foundational friendship?

I am on Reddit! Yes! Finally! Found time to sit down and make a profile... LOL!! I used to look at it to see what's going on, but now, I can contribute and be in the community!! How fun!! At last!!

My Experience With SLEAZE

As stated in the Urban Dictionary: sleazy, here's my experience with a particularly trashy situation. 

Money. Power. Women. Control. Once it gets to your head, there’s no coming off it. Most music producers can’t resist it. I once interned for a man who called himself a music producer. He wasn’t terrible but he wasn’t great either. I wanted to see what the industry was like, so I took on the paid internship. And after a month of working for him, I quit when I realized two very important things; they lie and are dogs.

If you find a good producer who makes good music and is willing to work with minorities, most of them are simply aiming to sleep with them and then toss them aside. It’s sad, but true. This guy had the nerve to ask me to recruit talent. And when I mentioned a friend who was actually a good singer but pursuing acting, he had me bring her in. His audition of her was different from when I was in the office. And when he tried to climb on top of her, she bolted. Our friendship has never been the same. I’m ashamed that I actually trusted this dog with my friend. Never again.

And, after all the talks and work I did on his behalf, working with him, his connections, and talent, I was never paid. To this day, he owes me $3000 but because I never got it in writing, I didn’t think he’d go back on it, I stopped working for him when I realized he would not pay me for my time, gas, and work. Although he often still asked if I was looking for work, I simply “junk mail”-ed his messages. I hope I never see him again. Because, if I do, I’m more than likely to beat his skull in with whatever is around.

For lying to me. For nearly raping my friend.

So, even when you have an iron-clad legal contract like how Kesha did with Dr. Luke… it means nothing if all he sees you as is a victim.

A DAZZLING Reality

Why DAZZLING is so important to me:

It’s never easy for females to jump to the top of their industry. Now, to add the Asian oppressive culture on top of that, not to mention their age, school work, and physical limitations, I have come to respect those who fight to support those they love even though they may never be recognized by their idols. Personally, I’m in the same boat, thus I have more sympathy for like minds. Which is why, I think, DAZZLING is unique, special, and I’m a fan of theirs.

If you claim that you’ve never been a fan of a fan, you’re lying. Our idols today are fans of others. DAZZLING came together because they were fans of Shinee and then stayed together because they found friendship and comfort in like minded companions. Their story may be common but it is one often untold and should be. So, in a year, I’m hoping to shoot a film of their story and struggles, because I find them inspiring and, of course, because I am their fan.

On my recent trip to Taiwan, on the last day, I had the opportunity to meet and hang out with DAZZLING from Taiwan!! They're a group of dancers, predominantly girls, who do cover dances of popular K-pop songs they like. They got more famous because of their enthusiastic and energetically manly styled dances despite being women. As of right now, the are all female, but they do have one male member who recently moved to the LA area because of reasons. He's the one I met first and I grew the connection to their team leader. After miscommunicating a lot because her English and my Chinese was not up to par, we finally managed to meet and talk and come to a conclusion!!

It is my honor to let anyone who reads my blog know that I am going to shoot my debut feature film in Taiwan... and DAZZLING will be my actors and subject. This film explores the reality of the dance community (or the lack there of) in Taiwan. It will bring to light how different it is compared to what we, here, in America, know and understand. It will explore the  mindset and issues these young people face. And, of course, though the film will be a story, there will be a behind the scenes documentary that goes into the truth of what is going on and how things work in Taiwan. There will be interviews, footages, and the like! So, I'm very excited and starting to figure things out is all the more exciting... YAY!!

The biggest issue I have right now is getting the music licensing rights for "Danger" by BTS. So, if you have any suggestions or advice, please leave it in the comments section!! For those of you who don't know who BTS or Bangtan Boys or care about k-pop... here's their MV of the song I want to use!! And HERE it is DAZZLING dancing to it. ... Not so bad, eh??

My Emotional Monday... and More!!

I've been slacking on my blogging for the main reason, I've simply been terribly distracted! But, I must share about what I'm excited about!!

I SAW CHRIS PINE AT JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE ON MONDAY AFTERNOON... (All thanks to 1iota.com) Which was why CoTangent did not record on Monday but on Tuesday! And then, because I was still in a tizzy, editing on Tuesday was impossible, especially since I dragged Ed to Tacos Delta for tacos before we recorded the episode! Anyways, we're coming up to our 1 year anniversary!! If you want more information on Chris Pine, here it is!! And now, the 47th episode of CoTangent!!



Also, here is Umbrella Thoughts Episode 2!! This podcast is different from the one above because it features different conversations, topics, and ideas. It's more free and opinionated, along the lines of what The View and The Talk should be talking about if they didn't discuss entertainment all the time. The newest episode is hosted/moderated by Tea and features Chris and Michelle, Celso special guesting!!



Onto the world of topics we should cover!! KUNG-FU PANDA 3 and The Finest Hours is out this Friday! One features the lovingly cute panda named Po, the dragon warrior, and the other features Chris Pine. Not sure which one I will watch first, but I guess we'll see... hehehe!! Deadpool is coming up to be out soon and we're always prepping for big projects coming up in our future! Yay!

The First Week of 2016

Did you make many resolutions? I did. Well, not many, but enough!!

I want to lose 100 lbs. ... Jk. That would be bad for my body. But I want to lose at least 50 lbs! I also want to build up Rain Bridge Studios so I'm going to shoot a pilot to a series only created by me! This should be fun and lots of people I like working with will work on it with me! Lucky me!!

I don't have too many updates, but 2016 ought to be fun!! Ed will start putting out more sports related content. JJ has a series she wants to start and preys on my inability to date!! ... OOH!! I WANT TO GO ON A DATE THIS YEAR!! I WANT TO DO THAT VERY MUCH!! Maybe it'll happen, maybe it won't!! I hope it will, though!! #PineNut I may be, but have you SEEN the girls Chris Pine dates?! OMG. There's no way I'll ever even catch his eye!! And as for Leonardo DiCaprio, homie, if you need a buddy to hang out and have clean fun with, I'm totally here for you! Everyone should have me as a friend. Seriously!!
